Ideas For Bathroom Medicine Cabinets

Surface-Mounted or Recessed?

As you have probably already guessed, there are 2 main types of bathroom medicine cabinets - surface mounted and recessed. Let's look at both.

Surface-mounted cabinets are hung on your wall just like a picture. They come out a little way from your wall and are usually quite easy to install.

Recessed bathroom medicine cabinets are built into the wall. This usually involves knocking a hole in your wall and then inserting the cabinet. This is usually a lot more complicated than installing a surface-mounted cabinet, unless you already have a hole in the wall from a previous cabinet.

Frameless, Framed & Multiple Door Cabinets

There are many different styles to choose from when it comes to cabinets for your bathroom. You can get a frameless mirrored door style of cabinet, which looks just like a frameless mirror when it is closed.

Or you could opt for a framed wooden number, which would look better if you have a country-style decor in your home and / or bathroom.

Finally, you could have the choice between single-door and multiple-door cabinets. The single door cabinets are usually more minimalist, for those of you who are interested in that look.

Anti-Fog, or "No-Fog" Medicine Cabinets

If you love long, hot, steamy showers then an anti-fog or a "no-fog" bathroom medicine cabinet might be just what you're after.

Cabinets such as the Capri medicine cabinet have a built in de-fog system that ensures your mirror is as clear during a shower as it is at any other time.

Corner Medicine Cabinets

If you have an odd-shaped bathroom or small amounts of storage space, you might prefer a corner bathroom medicine cabinet.

These are mounted, as the name suggests, in the corner of your bathroom. They are simpler to mount than recessed bathroom cabinets, in the same way that surface-mounted cabinets are.

Medicine Cabinet Lighting

If your cabinet does not include lighting, there are 2 main ways to illuminate your bathroom medicine cabinet.

You could use an integrated light bar that is designed to attach to a surface-mounted cabinet, or you could use a totally separate, stand alone light fixture that you mount above your cabinet.
