How I Learned To Love My George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill

In my early twenties, after I just moved out of home for the first time, I ate very unhealthy food. This wasn't because I was a junk food addict, but more because I was lazy. I lived with two other guys in your typical bachelor pad. Pizza boxes were stacked next to the rubbish bin in the kitchen. The oven wasn't used once all year. The only things we cooked were eggs and flapjacks.

Then my sister and my parents got together. They bought me a George Foreman indoor outdoor grill for my birthday. My whole world changed.

I started buying fish from the fish shop for a few dollars. I would turn my George Foreman indoor outdoor grill on, and five minutes later it would be ready to cook. I would throw the fish in and close the lid. Three minutes later (if it was a thin piece of fish) or six minutes (if it was a hefty piece of fish), my salmon, tuna or whatever would be ready. It came out of the George Foreman perfectly cooked on both sides, with grill marks on both sides. You never had to turn the fish because there was a grill in the lid and a grill in the base, just like a sandwich maker.

The best part of all (and this is the part that got my mother's approval) was that the grill was slanted so as to drain any fat and oil out of your food. The oil collected in a special tray that came with the George Foreman, so all you ate was the healthy fish or meat itself.

Of course, after eating it was time to clean the George Foreman. Now, nothing is going to be easier than throwing away an empty pizza box, but as far as cleaning goes, the George Foreman indoor outdoor grill wins hands down. You simply wait until the grill has cooled down (inside an hour should do it) and then clean it with a sponge and water. The manufacturers of the George Foreman grill don't recommend using soap or detergent, but I sometimes do use a little cleanser if I am able to rinse it off quickly. The little trays that collect the oil can be rinsed and put in the top shelf of the dishwasher.

I love my grill and the best part is, you don't have to use any oil to cook (not even spray-on!). This is because the George Foreman indoor outdoor grill has a non-stick surface.

Now in my late twenties, I am still using my George Foreman indoor outdoor grill. I have the stainless steel model luckily, so it fits in with our modern kitchen. You can use it on your balcony or patio by running an extension power cord out to the area.
