How Lazyboy Rocker Recliners Became World Famous

The story of how lazyboy rocker recliners became famous the world over.

Have you ever wondered where the word "lazyboy" came from? I did and this is how I found the answer.

One day, my son came to me with a school project. He had to find an example of a brand which had become so successful that its name was synonymous with the entire product category. For example, we call facial tissues "Kleenex", even if they're not. We "Xerox" something, even if we're using another brand of photocopier.

My son and I looked around the house for another example. Then I saw our lazyboy rocker recliner in the living room. "That's it!" I said. Many recliners are called 'Lazyboy' even if they're not built by the La-Z-Boy company.

Next, my son looked into it further. It turned out that lazyboy rocker recliners were indeed given their name by the founders of the La-Z-Boy company in 1929. He also found out that lazyboys were going to be called "Sit-N-Snoozes" for a short while. I wonder if the word "sitnsnooze" would have caught on quite the way "lazyboy" did.

Anyway, my son then had to find out why lazyboy rocker recliners had become so famous and well known that they had ended up creating a new word in the English language.

Here's what we found. A lot of the success of the La-Z-Boy company had to do with the new features they kept offering the marketplace. For example, you can buy lazyboys that recline with the touch of a button. These lazyboy power recliners have no lever - which not only means they look better (no ugly lever), but it also means less work for the sitter. Don't we all just love our comfort! I know I do!

You can also get lazyboys that swivel which make for a very relaxing evening. These lazyboy swivel rocker recliners allow you to turn 360 degrees for uninterrupted viewing and comfort.

Some lazyboy rocker recliners even have a fridge capable of keeping six cans cool under an armrest. You simply flip the armrest up and grab a cold drink out of the built-in fridge. My son loved this idea - as do I!

At the very high end of the scale, you have lazyboy rocker recliners with the ability to massage your back. This is truly comfort! These lazyboys often have a heat function as well to help your muscles relax even further.

Some lazyboys, such as the Berkline home theatre range, even have a subwoofer built into the seat. If you like going to the movies, you'll love the vibrations and the 'big sound' effect the subwoofer can recreate, right from your very chair! You'll feel every vibration in your gut – watching movies on the sofa just truly won't cut it anymore! That's what my son keeps telling me anyway!

I hope you enjoyed reading this short history of lazyboy rocker recliners!
