Top Tips On Choosing The Best Marble Floor Tiles
In all the homes I've seen, from Hollywood to Milan, nothing says luxury and elegance as well as marble floor tiles.
Of course, a big swimming pool and a Rolls out the front can't hurt, but marble floor tiles are the way to a stylish and luxurious home for the rest of us.
Luxury is a funny thing. As well as looking amazing, luxury items tend to last longer.
Take marble tiles for example. They look divine, and they will outlast your house. Carpet on the other hand, will last 10 years if you're lucky.
How To Select Marble Floor Tiles
I always order samples from the manufacturer. However, I know that marble is a natural substance. The veining, streaking and other markings on the tiles vary from batch to batch.
So I always ask to see the actual batch or the actual tiles before I order. This way, I know exactly what I am up for. “No surprises on tiling day” is my motto.
Sometimes, if I am working for a particularly fussy customer, I will pay a little extra to the manufacturer so that I can hand-pick the tiles I want out of his inventory. Remember, "no surprises on tiling day".
Another thing I do when shopping for marble floor tiles is order 10% more than what I need. Marble tiles are usually sold by the square foot, so I take the measurements of the customer's house and add 10% to take into account for any breakages or discoloured tiles.
How To Care For Marble Floor Tiles
Marble is a porous substance, which is another way of saying it has little holes in it. So any time there is water or any other substance spilled on marble, I wipe it up straight away.
You can clean your marble with dedicated marble floor cleaners. Some people use plain water and that works too. Please remember to sweep your marble floor free of any little bits of rubbish or dust before you clean it with a solvent or water.
You can wax marble to protect it but this is optional. I never let anyone go near white marble (especially white travertine marble) with a bottle of wax because that is the fastest way to turn it yellow. Yuck.
The Wrap
In conclusion, marble is a classy substance. (It comes mostly from Italy and Spain, so how could it be anything else)?
It looks great as marble floor tiles or marble shower tiles. I particularly love it in the entrance hall of my home. It makes me feel like I'm coming home to a castle every night.
