How To Remove Red Wine Stains On Carpets Easily

Do you know how to remove red wine stains on carpets? This article shows you the secret!

Red wine stains on carpets can be tremendously difficult to remove. I remember a dinner party I had once where one of my friends spilled some red wine on my white shag carpet.

A couple of guests started providing suggestions as to how to clean up the stain. Soon everybody was jumping in. One guest said I should rub the stain vigorously. A second guest said not to touch the stain at all. A third guest advised pouring half a bottle of sparkling water on the stain. Well everyone was having a great time – but I just wanted the stain to go away.

Here's what I've since learned is the best way to remove red wine stains on carpets.

How To Remove Red Wine Stains On Carpets

Here's how to remove red wine stains on carpets.

Step One

Pour salt or talcum powder on the stain until you can't see it anymore.

Step Two

Leave the salt or talcum overnight.

Step Three

The next day, vacuum the salt or talcum powder away. The carpet should then be clean.

Step Four

If the carpet is not yet clean, pour some warm water (warm, not hot) on a clean cloth. Dab or blot the stain from its edge into the center. Make sure you use a dabbing or blotting motion, not a scrubbing one. Scrubbing can destroy the texture of your carpet and create unnatural patterns in your carpet pile. Also please make sure you use only a small amount of water on your cloth. Too much water can cause carpet rings and can cause the stain to spread further.

Step Five

In case the stain has not been totally removed by this time, make a solution of dye stripper. Use 1 part of dye stripper to 50 parts of cold water.

Dip your cloth into the dye stripper solution and once again, dab or blot the stain from the edge towards the centre. The stain should have been totally removed by this time. In the event that it has not, call in a professional carpet cleaner.

Many people love red wine – and now you can serve it in your carpeted areas with a little bit more peace of mind!
