Everything You Wanted To Know About Zephyr Range Hoods
This article discusses the four main types of Zephyr range hoods, and the pros and cons of each type.
Zephyr range hoods come in four main types. The four types of Zephyr range hoods are wall-mounted, island or ceiling mounted, under cabinet and ductless. The benefits and drawbacks of each type, as well as some Zephyr models from each type are found below.
Wall Mounted Zephyr Range Hoods
Wall mounted range hoods, as the name suggests, are mounted on the wall directly above your kitchen range or stove. Beautiful wall mounted range hoods can look quite dramatic and serve as a feature of your kitchen.
The drawback of wall mounted range hoods is that they take up extra space above your range. This is space that might have accommodated an extra cabinet (as in the case of the under cabinet range hoods discussed below).
I recommend wall mounted range hoods if you are not short on storage space. However, if you are short on storage space, I recommend an under cabinet model.
Some of the wall mounted Zephyr range hoods are the Savona, the Venezia, the Okeanito, the Firenze and the Palermo. As you can tell, they are named after places in Europe. This is reflected in the styling of these Zephyr models. Stainless steel construction ensures they will fit in with a designer or contemporary style home (I do not recommend them for colonial or rustic style kitchens).
Island (Ceiling Mounted) Zephyr Range Hoods
Island or ceiling mounted range hoods, as the name suggests, are mounted on the ceiling and hang down to within a few feet of your range. They can look even more dramatic than wall mounted range hoods and some of them are almost sculpture.
For example, the Zephyr Trapeze island range hood looks just fantastic in the modern kitchen. Some other Zephyr range hoods are the Milano, the Napoli and the Torino. A drawback of island range hoods in general is that, as with the wall mounted range hoods, you cannot place extra cabinets or shelving in that area.
Under Cabinet Zephyr Range Hoods
Under cabinet range hoods, as the name suggests, are mounted under your kitchen cabinets above your range. The benefits of under cabinet range hoods is that they allow you to gain more storage space while still providing ventilation for your kitchen.
The drawback of under cabinet range hoods is that they don't look as dramatic and as good as island or wall mounted range hoods. Some of the Zephyr under cabinet models are the Whirlwind, the Hurricane, the Cyclone, the Tempest I, the Tempest II, the Typhoon, the Pyramid and the Tamburo.
Ductless Zephyr Range Hoods
Ductless range hoods do not duct the cooking smells outside your home. Rather, they recirculate the air around your kitchen. Open windows are usually essential when cooking with ductless range hoods. This is an obvious drawback, however ductless may be your only option if cost or the physical layout of your home prevent you from installing ducted range hoods.
You can purchase most range hoods made by Zephyr – wall mounted, island or under cabinet – in its ductless equivalent.
